Our experience with Susan and her dogs has been first rate. Since we live locally, we’ve had the opportunity to visit her twice and both her enthusiasm and care for her animals is unmatched. Susan is responsive, knowledgeable and truly cares about her “pack”. The puppies are well fed, cared for and given lots of love before they go to their new homes. We have purchased our first puppy from her and look forward to doing more business down the road. If I could put our experience with Susan in one word it would be quite simply: amazing.

Brian

I have known Susan for almost a year. I purchased the first Carolina from her and later purchased the sister of my first dog.

I find Susan to be professional and informative. She has helped me through many stages of my girls life.
She has been an asset in the training and understanding of my dogs.

She knows this breed. Her dogs and puppies are healthy. She is reliable and honest. She is caring for both you and
your puppy.

Best Regards,
Kathy Thurston

A. You naming her Happy Tails sure fits her! She has to be the happiest dog I have ever had.
Abby & I are doing WONDERFULLY! I named her Abby (abigail) since it sounded like Happy Tails. She is a dream. I have taken her to work with me every day. She stays in her kennel and I am able to get her out several times a day; let alone everyone wants to come play with her.

She is exactly what I want. She plays great yet is a cuddler. Right now she is sleeping on my foot. She is a dream puppy. Very well behaved & smart. Gets along great with my husband's dogs and even plays great with the cats.

She is happy and healthy and VERY LOVED!

I will keep you updated on her pictures. As you can see from the pictures, her ears are really starting to stand up.

Wanted to give you some updates on Abby. We are having a great time. As you can see from the picture of her leading my horse Shasta, she has taken to the horses just fine. She is such a beautiful dog; so many people want her! I keep giving them your info and educating them on the Carolina Dog. She is full of personality; she gets so goofy it just makes us laugh how she jumps around and how agile she is.

She is so quick to learn. She is very timid to new people as Carolina's tend to be but boy does she like to play with us! Wish I had her energy. But she is content to keep herself occupied too. We have had some struggles house breaking. She never messes in her kennel but she is sometimes hard to read that she wants to go out and will mess on the floor. Or she gets so excited and tinkles a bit. But that too is getting better. All comes with patients and age I guess.

These are such unique dogs and I am learning with her. We are going to San Antonio TX for the Christmas holidays and will take her with us. She will get to be an experienced plane flyer!

Thank you again for picking out such a great girl for me. She has truly won our hearts.

Have a very Blessed Christmas,
Brenda & Abby (aka happy tails)

I have truly found that praise is the best with these dogs too. When she does something wrong, I use a stern voice and tell her no and when she stops, I praise her. When we are outside playing and doing chores and if she wanders too far from me, I tell her to come here and at first she would try to keep away from me thinking she was in trouble but when I switched to saying "here" in a firm voice, crouch down a bit and tell here good girl, she comes right away. I had to teach my husband her ways since he is so used to bird dogs. He had her out helping with the cows and she wandered a bit too far from him and he panicked, yelling at her to come here but 2 things were happening: she was finding a far enough place to go potty and then she thought she was in trouble. So firm and immediate praise has been great with her.

We are having such a blast playing. She is so much fun and gets along great with our other dogs and cats. She knows I am her master and comes to me for protection if one of the other dogs scolds her. She is so cute, I'd take 10 more like her!

I really like her timid around others. I take her occasionally to the hospital to visit patients and she is so good with them. Sits quietly for them to love on her. Most puppies are too squirmy.

I'll keep you posted on any different characteristics. And will look forward to your book some day!

Merry Christmas,
Brenda & Abby

Hi Susan,

Here are updated pics of Abby. She is really maturing. The house breaking has been accomplished. She just seamed to wake up one day and was trained.

She has started (past couple months) to want to be protective. She used to run and hide if someone came. Now she will bark then do wide circles around them to come sit by me but if she thinks I will hold her to let them pet her, she will run under the deck or in another room. Since I want her to be protective and leery of strangers, I praise her for barking then tell her to come to me and don't make her be pet by the person. I just ignore her being leery. Is this the correct procedure?

It is really neat to see the emergence of the pup wanting to be protected and hide in the den to the adult that wants to protect. Seems she is in the middle teenager stage now.

Abby continues to be the happiest dog I have ever known. Even when she is play/chasing the colts or calves and I verbally scold her, she comes to me wagging that tail!

The pictures were taken shortly after she jumped out of the horse's water tank. She loves playing in the water.

Thanks again for all your great advice and providing me with such a wonderful friend. She is my pride & joy!!

HAVING HAD DOGS OF ALL TYPES FOR MOST OF MY LIFE I FEEL I CAN HONESTLY SAY OUR NEW PUPPY IS THE BEST BEHAVED OF ANY I'VE EVER HAD. IN ADDITION TO WALKING INTO OUR LIVES YESTERDAY AS IF WE HAD BEEN TOGETHER FOR YEARS HE CAME INTO THE BATHROOM WHILE EDY WAS BRUSHING HER TEETH THIS MORNING AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT CLEAR HE NEEDED TO GO OUTSIDE. HE AND MATTHEW HAVE BEEN PLAYING ON THE FLOOR LIKE OLD FRIENDS. HE IS ALL WE COULD HAVE HOPED FOR ESPECIALLY FOR A CHILD WITH DISABILITIES WHO'S ONLY REAL PLAY FRIEND IS HIS DOG. WE ARE ONLY SORRY WE COULDN'T GET TWO. WE'LL KEEP YOU POSTED ON HIS ADVENTURES. TAYLOR,EDY AND MATTHEW

MS.SUSAN, YOU WOULD REALLY ENJOY THE LOOKS AND COMMENTS WE HAD OVER THE WEEKEND. THEY RANGE FROM "I'VE NEVER SEEN A GERMAN SHEPARD THAT COLOR" TO" IS THAT A COYOTE OR A FOX". THANKS FOR EVERYTHING WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR KINDNESS.

It gives me great satisfaction to share my experience in selecting a Carolina dog from Susan B. Anthony. I am very happy to have made that decision because I know not only have I received the perfect companion, but also I got him from someone who takes extreme pride in breeding quality dogs. Not everyone interested in a Carolina puppy could share my experience. Carolina dogs are rare and finding a quality breeder, especially one with puppies available, require lots of patience. Luckily, I live 50 miles away and only had to wait two months for the puppies to be ready. Two weeks before picking up my puppy, I had a chance to come by Susan’s place and spend some time with her and the dogs. It impressed me how well behaved her dogs were even though she had so many. The dogs barked when I first got there for warning and remained quiet and focused on me until I left. They responded to Susan as if they understood everything she said. These amazing dogs were also able to jump great heights with ease, proving to me that the picture Susan has on her web site are in fact of her dogs jumping on the roof. I was delighted, and couldn’t wait until I can come back to bring home my chosen puppy. Two weeks went by and it was time to pick up the eight-weeks-old pup. That day, Susan gave my puppy all his necessary vaccinations and provided me with all the care instructions. She also went out of her way to give me training recommendations and answered all my questions. I left happier than ever, and I am confident someone else will too if they decide to get a Carolina dog from Susan B. Anthony.

Happy Carolina puppy owner,

Dominic Nguyen

Good Morning,
Our first day with Dixie (we changed her name when we saw her) was great! She fit right in with the kids and the animals. Initially, she barked at the Lab but when he showed her he only wanted to play she accepted him and has followed him around ever since. She and the Jack Russell hit it off immediately playing for the first hour but then Dixie decided to show Moochie that she intended to be the alpha female. Moochie, having held that role for the past six years was not going to give that title up willingly so a struggle ensued with Dixie getting too rough. We put her in her kennel for 20 min which she intensely resented. She barked, whined, gnawed at the door, pawed at the floor and even howled but when she came out at the end of her "time out" she hasn't bothered Moochie at all.

She has been great about the potty training with only two small accidents, but even then she went to the tile on the kitchen floor not on the carpet. I think this was a result of her not being able to stop exploring outside long enough to concentrate on pottying. She has since picked a spot in the yard as hers and every time we take her there she goes.

She was amazingly calm when we got her at the airport. She did not seem agitated at all. We let her out of the kennel in the car on the ride home which took about an hour. She picked a spot under the bench seat at the back of my Honda van, laid down and went to sleep. She was so calm we even decided to take her in PetSmart to find a collar, leash and harness that fit her. Everyone we met in the store was intrigued by her and many even recognized the breed.

We have all fallen completely in love with her. She is extremely loving and VERY smart. Savannah is impressed with the fact that she knows her name already and knows the words "No", "Out", and"Come on". Connor picked a toy called hide a squirrel for her and she has impressed him with pulling the three squirrels out of the toy and bringing them to him. She also plays fetch very well. The both are thrilled with her. She slept in Savannah's room last night in her kennel and slept from about ten last night until I went in at eight this morning to check on her. She never whined once.

Thanks again, she's everything you promised and more!

Love,
Ed, Susan, Connor, Savannah and Dixie

Hello, Susan!

Dixie is doing just fine! She's quickly settled into the family's routine and we have adapted to her several inputs.

You could set your watch with her regularity in taking morning naps and going to bed.

The pecking order has been established among Dawg and Moochie (pretty much a draw with Moochie (the Jack Russell)). Good Ol' Dawg is still King but predominatly by his aloofness... Dixie and Moochie simply walk under him and he pays them no mind other than to reach down and nose them when they pass. Dixie and Dawg take their naps together and face each other as they sleep.

Only two or three accidents in house training.... Those, as you might expect, were predominantly due to our missing the proper scheduling.

She's adapted well to the outside environment and the yard's boundaries... We haven't left her totally alone with the other dogs yet but she spent most of the day with them today as Susan or I came and went as was necessary from the house. Dixie doesn't quite know what to think about automobiles... she scampers away to one of her several safe spots and watches apprehensively until the car leaves or turns off.... then she comes running to whomever steps out. This is probably good thing.

She's not really enthused about riding in my pickup... she typically finds a soft spot, lays down and attempts to sleep.... she just doesn't seem to be one of those that will have her ears flapping in the wind as she has her head stuck out the window. Car travel has only occurred to the tune of maybe a couple of hours (inclusive of her trip home from the airport).... well, wait a minute... she did go with Susan and Savannah to Myrtle Beach last week.... without problem.

Eating really hasn't been an issue... we continue your suggestion of a few spoonfuls of canned food in the morning and a quality brand of dry food in the evening... More often than not, when she's hungry, she proudly tromps into the family room with her bowl in mouth and drops it at my feet.

She sleeps (in her crate) atop Savannah's bed and normally conks out around 9 pm and gets up when Savannah stirs in the morning.

It's absolutely amazing that she quickly established me as the "alpha male" of the family... I can only assume that it's the bass in my voice... She gets most jealous when she's near me... She attempts to get between me and any of the other dogs and always lowers her ears and comes crawling up my lap and onto my chest (while in my recliner). She'll then roll over, belly up, and fall asleep in the crook of my arm while we watch TV.

As you mentioned, she spends much of her day gathering her toys and carefully placing them around her area in the living room. She then romps around, barks and simply plays with whomever or whatever is around.

So far, no problems with chewing.... she's done pretty well with that and typcially gets her big chewy bone or the cylinder of oak wood that I provided.

She's doing great, Susan... and displays every attribute that you mentioned... (she dug a little and ate some dirt while at the beach last week).

Here she is, in Connor's arms:

Thanks, Susan.... we hope to obtain another perhaps next year.

Ed Livesay

Hi Susan,
Just wanted to let you know all is well with Dixie. She's growing quickly, into everything and playfully terrorizing the cats. We have really enjoyed her and still marvel at how beautiful she is. Everyone stops us to comment on how pretty she is and recognize her as a "dingo".

When should we expect her to go into heat? We want to make sure we have plenty of security for her to avoid any unwanted advances.

Have you had a chance to process her papers yet?

Please respond when you have a moment.

Thanks again,
Ed, Susan and kids

Bender is starting to mature quickly. He is now at 42 lbs. His confidence is growing daily, and he may just be the coolest dog I have ever been around. He always stays close to us when not leashed. He is very agile and clever. He even tells on his doggy friends when they are doing something he knows is wrong (jumping on the bed or potty accidents in the house). His favorite toy is any sock that is left on the floor.
