The history of Chief Solano: The county of Solano where California Carolina Dogs resides was named after Chief Solano, he was a Suisun Indian of the Wintu Tribe. The Wintu Tribe territories were East of the Napa River and inland and north of the Carquinez Straight of San Francisco bay extending at least to Redding California some 300 miles. The Miwok Tribe were associates of the Wintu Tribe and the Miwok territories were the west side of the Napa River extending to the coast and northward to Oregon. The Napa River is a tributary of the San Francisco Bay Delta waterway system and extends up through the fertile vinyards of Napa County.
